Comment: House will not cool below 76 in mid-afternoon in summer. I have a 26 year old home with a cathedral ceiling living room with a wall of south-facing windows. We also have an undersized AC unit that was replaced under home warranty 2 years ago. I really should have gotten them to settle with cash, and applied that to a larger unit. After the replacement, there was no improvement in electric bill, even though old unit was about 12 years old. Last week installed solar screens, that didn't even help. I wonder if there is a way to insulate that cathedral ceiling, to improve the comfort in the house? I would even like to install a wood paneled ceiling, right over the existing drywall/popcorn ceiling, with some type of insulating layer, but I don't have a lot of room to do that, since windows go right up to ceiling. I need help!
