We just bought a 1949 cape cod that is prone to ice damming in the front (over two bay windows) and the back (in the valley where two roofs come together). The attic is accessible and has old rock wool insulation. The soffits have vents, but there is no air space up to the attic area 9it is blocked by the rock wool). I am looking for an affordable solution to improving insulation in the home to address the ice dam problem. Thank you.
