The old fiberglass insulation in this Ellington, CT attic wasn't keeping up with the demands of the cold winters. It coudn't stop air from escaping out of the warm house. To repair the attic and make the house more comfortable, we had to first remove the old insulation. Next, we used polyurethane foam on any air leaks we found. This expanding foam fills every crack for an airtight seal, and also insulates! When we were finished with the air sealing, we blew cellulose into the attic. This super-green material not only insulates, but also resists combustion, insects, and mold. After this attic insulation upgrade, the owners of this home were far more comforable in their home, and saved money on heating the house as well!
The homeowners of this Canton property had very hot summers and very cold winters. The reason for this was due to no insulation in the attic whatsoever. The homeowners contacted the experts at Dr. Energy Saver of CT and our certified home comfort specialist Don came out to fix the problem. We recommended our close cell spray foam. Closed-cell foams are quite dense. When used for insulation, it ranges from 1.7 lb. per cubic foot to 2 lb. per cubic foot. The greater the density, the stronger the foam. Closed-cell foam is dense enough to strengthen the structure to which it is applied. In fact, studies have shown that it improves the attachment of roof sheathing to rafters and trusses. Advantages include:
The home owners can rest assured now that they know they will live in a more confortable enviornment.

Our Home Energy Expert, Keith Saunders, came in, and quickly diagnosed the problem. They first removed all of the old insulation before installing Trusoft Cellulose insulation on the attic gables. Compared to fiberglass insulation, TruSoft™ cellulous will not burn, become moldy or attract pests. Thanks to treatment with natural borate compounds, cellulose insulation will never catch fire. The same treatment discourages the presence of insects, rodents and mold.
