This homeowner in Sheffield, MA called us when his basement had a water issue. He had a small, inadequate sump pump. Unfortunately, it was unable to stop the water in his basement, and he knew he needed something more. So, our Home Comfort Specialist came out to see his basement.
After speaking with the homeowner, we recommended the TripleSafe™ sump pump system, which suited all of his needs. The TripleSafe™ has 3 pumps to protect from flooding. The first pump is a 1/3 hp, cast iron Zoeller pump that can pump up to 2,200 gallons per hour, 8 feet high. Should the first pump fail or not be able to keep up with the temporary heavy flow of water, a 1/2 hp AC back up pump on a separate discharge line can pump 3,900 gallons of water per hour. If the power fails, then a third, battery operated "UltraSump" pump automatically pumps up to 12,000 gallons of water out of the basement. Now, this customer's home will be protected during floods and heavy storms!
This homeowner reached out to us online to see if we could help him with his basement insulation. He specifically wanted the rim joist insulated. He had cold floors and wanted to make his home more comfortable. In a basement, the “rim joist” is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house. The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed. Basement ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batts, doesn’t stop the flow of cold air into the home. Results - cold floors, drafty, uncomfortable rooms, cold basement/lower level, higher heating and cooling bills and more condensation in the basement or crawl space in the summer.
We had the perfect solution for this customer. In this solution, we spray foam the rim joist in the basement in order to seal and insulate it. Two part expanding spray foam is installed on the rim joist and over the sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of the home. Our spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters the home. Results - warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, the house is easier to heat and costs less to heat, less summertime condensation on cold basement surfaces.
This homeowner in Great Barrington, MA called us after he had a large-scale basement mold issue remediated. The remediators had ripped out most of the walls, as well as the insulation. As a result, he was looking to get his basement insulated so that he could get it re-finished.
We were able to help this customer. We utilized our Foamax polyisocyanurate board alongside two-part spray foam to insulate the basement. Before we were able to utilize these, however, we had to remove the rest of the paneling. Our crew tore out the remaining parts of the finished basement. This ensured that we were insulating the basement properly, as well as leaving the homeowner room to re-finish the basement after the insulation was finished. Once the home was down to the cinderblock walls, we were able to go in and begin to insulate. The Foamax polyiso board was able to fasten directly over the existing cinderblock walls. After they were installed, we were able to insulate the rim joist with two-part expanding spray foam. This was sprayed in the rim joist and over the sill plate, preventing air leaks. Now, this homeowner is able to re-finish his basement, and it will be comfortable for years to come!
These homeowners in Stockbridge, MA had sagging old fiberglass insulation under their home and knew it had to go.
We removed the fiberglass, which was not providing much insulation value at all and letting cold air creep its way into the home, before getting started on the new insulation. We installed our SilverGlo graphite infused foam which has a radiant barrier to reflect heat and made sure to seal all the seams.
No more drafts in this home thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions.
