Door Install at bottom of basement hatch steps to make your basement and floors warmer.
These homeowners called us after receiving an energy audit. The Audit turned up that they needed upgraded insulation to make the home more efficient. This home had been causing them nothing but headaches with drafty and inconsistently heated rooms, high energy bills and terrible ice dams. It was time to make a call to the DR!
We sent one of our Building Science Specialists out to meet with these homeowners and discuss a solution that would help put their minds at ease and save them money. We would start by removing and disposing all old, dirty insulation and prepping for the installation of fresh, new insulation. Next we air seal all penetrations with expanding polyurethane foam and treat the affected areas with MoldX2™ Cleaner and Botanical. Next we insulate the attic floor with TruSoft™ blown-in Cellulose and also air seal and insulate the Scuttle Cover with SilverGlo™ Insulation Board. Next we move to the basement where we air seal and insulate the rim joist with Closed-Cell Spray Foam. The last step is to insulate the cantilevered floor between stories by dense packing TruSoft™ Cellulose in through the soffits. This home is now completely "Buttoned-Up" and ready to provide energy efficiency at it's best, reduce ice dams and save lots of money on future energy bills!
This homeowner called us because he was having a problem with air being distributed throughout the home. Part of the home were either way too hot or way too cold and dusty too. They requested we come to evaluate the situation.
Our Building Science Specialist was able to determine through careful inspection of the duct system in the attic, the existing insulation around the duct work was inefficient and leaking air in several different areas. This attic was also full of old, ineffective fiberglass insulation. The Solution was easy...Duct Encapsulation and new insulation. We started by Installing our Tite 'N' True™ Foam Duct Encapsulation System in which we seal and insulate right over the existing insulation with 1" of closed cell foam insulation, creating an air tight seal. We also installed a David Lewis™ Stair Hatch Cover. We then cleaned out all of the old, fiberglass insulation, air sealed all penetrations, sealed around can lights and blew in TruSoft™ Cellulose Insulation, burying the ducts, which with further insure that the air you use to heat/cool will be delivered to your rooms without loss along the way.
This homeowner called us because he recently moved his Father into the Finished Room Over the Garage (or F.R.O.G.) and his Father was complaining that the room was too cold. When he called our Appointment Center we knew exactly what he was talking about and agreed to send a Building Science Specialist right away.
Upon careful evaluation, our Building Science Specialist was able to confirm that the issue is that the Finished Room Over the Garage (or F.R.O.G.) was not insulated at all. Of course this room was cold! We air sealed & insulated the garage ceiling with TruSoft™ Cellulose. We then installed a SuperKneeWall™ Insulation System with SilverGlo™ and TruSoft™ Cellulose Insulation. Now the room is warm & ready for dad!
This homeowner in Mystic, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help him with his 600 square foot crawl space. He had purchased the home the previous year, and was ready to start work on it. He had four distinct needs he wanted addressed. The first was debris removal. The crawl space had debris in it from different owners over the years, as well as some insulation that was not performing up to the standard the homeowner wanted. The homeowner was also looking to re-insulate the crawl space, properly, so that he would not have issues in the future. He then wanted to install a vapor barrier, in part to reduce the musty odors in his home and attempt to control the humidity. Finally, he was looking to install a dehumidifier in the crawl space to further reduce the humidity. He was hoping that we would be able to tackle all of his needs.
We were able to help this customer with all of his needs! One of the solutions we utilized was our CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation system. We first insulated the walls using our SilverGlo™ foam insulation. For the floor, we added a dimpled drainage mat to create a thermal break. We then installed TerraBlock™ floor insulation on top of that. Then, we installed a CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner over that insulation. We fastened it into both the walls and floor to create a permanent solution for this crawl space. We then added two-part expanding spray foam to the rim joist to ensure that the crawl space was covered. Combined with our other solutions, this homeowner will experience less drafts, less humidity, and a much more comfortable home!
