Snow Melt in Millbury, MA

This homeowner in Millbury, MA called us out to their home to update their attic insulation. Due to having inefficient insulation they were experiencing snow melt on the roof! Some spots were too hot and others were too cold. This home was insulated with old fiberglass insulation, which does not stop airflow!

We know we needed to remove all of the old, inefficient fiberglass insulation in this knee wall space. We bag up and properly dispose of the materials and move on to installing our SilverGlo! We install our blocks of Silverglo foam insulation board between the ceiling joist bays, and under the rafters. Around the blocks are air sealed with foam. Now, inside air is not able to escape out of the home and outside air is not able to enter!

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions this home is more comfortable, energy-efficient, and no longer has snow melt!

Insulating a Crawl Space in Shrewsbury, MA

This homeowner in Shrewsbury, MA reached out to us hoping that we would be able to help him with his insulation. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to his home, he provided a full evaluation of the entire home, including the crawl space, which had insulation issues. In a crawl space, the “rim joist” is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house. The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed. Crawl space ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batts, doesn’t stop the flow of cold air into the home. Results - cold floors, drafty, uncomfortable rooms, cold lower level, higher heating and cooling bills and more condensation in the basement or crawl space in the summer.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. In this solution, we spray foam the rim joist in the crawl space in order to seal and insulate it. Two part expanding spray foam is installed on the rim joist and over the sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of the home. Our spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters the home. Results - warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, the house is easier to heat and costs less to heat, less summertime condensation on cold crawl space surfaces.

Installing an Egress Window in Otis, MA.

This homeowner in Otis, MA needed a new window in order to ensure that he would have a secondary way to get out of his basement in case of emergency. Unfortunately, there was not a pre-existing window in the basement, as is often the case. Additionally, there was not a straightforward spot to put the window due to the terrain around the home.

Luckily, Fogarty's was able to identify a spot that the window would be able to go into. We then marked off where the mini-excavator should remove dirt, rocks, and other material from around the space. We then measured out and marked where the window would ideally go. We found that putting the window in the closet would be the best spot, and marked that part of the drywall and tore it out.  On the outside, we prepped and cut the foundation so that it would fit the egress window. We then framed the window and installed it. Once we finished that, we were able to install the window well around it. The homeowner and his family loved the window, and their basement will stay safe and comfortable for years to come!

Insulating Walls to Make Basement Warmer in Sheffield, MA

This customer contacted Fogarty's Home Services for help with her unfinished basement. She wanted to have our team create a nice, well-insulated "man cave" for her husband. The house had been recently purchased, and our customer wanted to ensure that her husband had a finished space to call his own. The insulation in the basement was in need of replacement. The walls themselves were not insulated at all, and were simply poured concrete. This made the basement very cold in the winter. In the summer, the warm and humid air created condensation on the walls, which caused mold in some of the insulation.

In order to ensure that the entire basement was sealed and protected, we installed Foamax™ boards around the entirety of the basement. These boards are installed with Dr. Energy Saver's proprietary Foam-Tite fasteners. We also sealed the rim joist with spray foam insulation.   The end result is lower energy bills and a warm, comfortable basement for the customer that is ready for transformation into that 'man cave'.
