This Glenview homeowner was experiencing temperature swings, poor attic usability, and limited storage space—common issues caused by outdated insulation and vented attic conditions.
We completed a targeted attic upgrade designed to improve energy efficiency, home comfort, and usable storage space.
First, we carefully removed existing cellulose insulation only in the areas required to extend the attic decking, preserving the remaining insulation wherever possible.
Next, we converted the space into a SuperAttic system by installing 4" SilverGlo foam board along the roof rafters. The system was fully air sealed using Zyp Foam to create an airtight, conditioned attic. This approach helps reduce energy loss, improve indoor comfort year-round, and maintain proper roof ventilation by keeping the roof deck cold in winter.
Finally, we installed and extended attic decking to both the front and back of the attic, creating safe, functional storage space for the homeowner.
This Palatine attic went from uneven, underperforming insulation to a cleaner, more complete attic insulation system. Our Dr. Energy Saver team added fresh blown-in cellulose insulation to help improve energy efficiency, reduce heat loss, and support a more comfortable home year-round. A properly insulated attic can make a big difference in how the home feels — especially during Midwest winters and hot summer months. Small upgrades above the ceiling can lead to better comfort throughout the entire home.
