We recently helped homeowners in Calais, Maine with their newly purchased house. The basement was damp, and that moisture had caused the support beams to weaken over time. Lally columns were rusting, and the floors above were beginning to sag. We installed SmartJacks to properly stabilize the support of the home. SmartJacks are zinc-coated steel posts that will never rust, and are custom fit to level the floors of the home. They can be adjusted over time if needed as the house continues to settle.

Many homes in Maine are built on old fieldstone wall foundations, and this one in Calais, Maine was no exception. Hydrostatic pressure was causing a wall to bow in, and the homeowners wanted to find a solution before they experienced total wall failure. We installed our StableLock Wall system, where we pour a new concrete wall with patented bracing to stabilize the home. The new wall is poured directly next to the failing wall, preventing it from shifting any further. By doing this, homeowners do not have to undergo any major excavation or jacking up their home, which is not only disruptive but quite costly. Most StableLock Wall projects are complete in 2-3 days, with minimal disruption to the homeowners.

Homeowners in Robbinston, Maine reached out for help with their foundation wall that was bowing and cracked. After providing a free estimate, we recommended installing PowerBraces to support the home. PowerBraces are custom fit steel beams that are attached to the floor joists to support the home and prevent further shifting of the wall. PowerBraces can be adjusted over time to even straighten the wall back to its original position!

This cinder block foundation wall in Eastport, Maine was failing and the homeowners needed help with repairs before it completely gave way. The wall was cracking and bowing in, often due to hydrostatic pressure. System Design Specialist Alan N. met with the owners and reviewed our StableLock Wall system as an option to repair their wall. StableLock is our patented poured concrete wall with specialized bracing that is installed next to the failing wall. The new wall provides stability to the home, while stopping the original wall from any further movement. With this system, the homeowners do not have to deal with any major excavation, so it is less disruptive and costly to repair.

High moisture plagued this Paris, ME crawlspace, and concerned about mold growing, the homeowner reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems for help. System Design Specialist Sam Crowley met with the homeowner and worked with them to design a system that would encapsulate their crawlspace and protect their home from moisture.

CleanSpace with Drainage Matting was installed to create an inorganic barrier between the outside elements and keep moisture and critters out. CleanSpace is attached to the rim joist with Spray Foam to ensure a complete seal. SmartJacks were installed to replace rusting and deteriorating supports to keep the floor above stable and remove any bounce that the floors once had. A SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to keep humidity at safe levels and connected to a Condensate Pump so the homeowner never has to worry about draining a bucket of water. Finally, a Smart Sump Liner was installed so a sump pump can be easily added in the future if the homeowner decides to. Now that the homeowner’s crawlspace is encapsulated, their goal of protecting their home is achieved, and they now have a safe area for storage.
