A Northwoods retreat in Two Harbors, MN had crawl space issues. Wetness and damage to the insulation produced a bad odor that affected the rest of the home. Looking for a solution to restore comfort to their home, the homeowners reached out to DBS about our crawl space encapsulation service.
Dr. Energy Saver Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the home and completed a thorough inspection of the crawl space. He discovered moldy insulation, water damage, and clear signs of critters living in the space. Henry designed a plan that included removing the damaged insulation and replacing it with our crawl space encapsulation system.

After removing the damaged insulation, our team worked to address the moisture issues by installing a SmartDrain® crawl space drainage system. From there, they applied our 3-layer crawl space encapsulation system consisting of; drainage matting, TerraBlock™ insulation, and a CleanSpace® vapor barrier.

Then they laid down panels of TerraBlock™ foam insulation to protect the area against frost build-up. Finally, they sealed off the ground with the CleanSpace® vapor barrier. On the walls, the crew installed panels of SilverGlo™ rigid foam insulation and air sealed in between the panels with ZypFoam™. To finalize the project, the crew sprayed waterproof polyurethane foam insulation into the rim joists to air seal the crawl space.
Now that the crawl space has been thoroughly insulated, the homeowner will experience warmer floors and lower heating bills. They can relax comfortably knowing that their crawl space will stay drier and promote healthy living conditions.
