The homeowner recently purchased this Duluth, MN home and noticed water issues in the basement shortly thereafter. The block wall foundation was prone to taking on water, resulting in constant clean-up in the basement. The owner wanted to fix the water issues for an overall safer and more usuable basement.

DBS Design Specialist Rich Johnsen is an expert in basement waterproofing and visited the home to provide a thorough inspection. It was determined that drain tile would be installed as well as a new sump pump to protect the basement against water intrusion.

DBS Foreman Dustin Behning and his crew worked on the interior waterproofing job. The crew began by breaking out concrete to create a trench around the home's footing. Our WaterGuard® drain system was put into place and will effectively capture wall and floor seepage, directing it to a new UltraSump™ sump pump with battery back-up. CleanSpace®, a thick, white poly sheet material was then installed to direct any water leaking from the walls into the drain system below.  CleanSpace® makes an excellent covering for basement foundation walls. The crew finished the job by burying the discharge line in the lawn away from the home.

These galvanized steel piers were then hydraulicaly driven into the ground to weight-bearing soils. The weight of the home was then transferred to the competent soil.

This family home in Deerwood, MN was built in the early 1900s so it was no surprise that water started leaking into the basement. The owners were hoping to partially finish the basement but knew they had to take care of the water issues so they contacted DBS in search of a permanent solution.
