Crawl Space Encapsulation in Brandywine, MD

Scott's home in Brandywine, MD had a crawl space that was in rough shape. This was leading to comfort problems throughout the year as well as moisture-related issues from the humidity in the summer months. Scott's first choice was the right choice when he called Complete Home Solutions to address the problem. after a full evaluation of the home, our Home Comfort Specialist recommended a Crawl Space Encapsulation. On the day of the encapsulation, our Home Comfort Technicians began by removing the old vapor barrier and insulation from the crawl space., this provided an empty area to begin the transformation. They then installed our Clean space vapor barrier which when bolted to the walls of the crawl space creates a seal that prevents any moisture or pest from entering the crawl from below. Following the installation of the vapor barrier, our Technicians used a 2 part closed cell spray foam to insulate and seal the walls. This process restricts any air from coming through the vents or cinder blocks in the crawl. The final step of this encapsulation is to install a dehumidifier that regulates the humidity to a consistent 50-55%.. Scott has all ready noticed a difference in mild weather and can't wait to see how the improvements help this winter.

Clean Space Crawlspace in Bowie, Maryland

This single family home in Bowie, MD was suffering from cold floors in the winter months, drafts, and high energy bills.

Our Auditor performed a home energy assessment to determine where the home was leaking air. The Production crew provided air sealing to prevent future air leakage. We also encapsulated the crawl space to eliminate cold floors, lower energy bills, and improve the overall comfort of the home.

Attic Insulation Upgraded in Bowie, MD

How much insulation should you have in your attic? According to BPI, about 14" (that's an R-49 value). Is just insulation enough? Absolutely not. The picture on the left shows an attic that does have insulation, but it is turning gray. This tells us that there is air leaking through and filtering through the insulation. An attic like this will still cause the homeowner to lose air (energy) and make their home very uncomfortable (while losing money).

CHS needed to move the insulation out of the way so we could get to the rim and band joists all along the floor. We air sealed everything to stop air from leaking through the attic. We also installed blown in cellulose insulation (which dense packs really nicely). These changes created an attic that does what we want it to do...protect the house from unwanted outside air.
