Over the years Atlantic City Electric has been having issues with barn swallow flying in and nesting above the I- beams in the loading dock area. When asked by Cowleys pest control company for a solution, we immediately went out to the job site and installed Bird Slope on top of every I- beam. Bird Slope prevents birds from landing and nesting in those areas permanently.

A business owner was experiencing a rat issue around his property in Bernardsville, NJ, so he called Cowleys for help and we were sent out. After inspecting the entire property, we found a number of rat burrows in the back of the building near the stairs to the basement. Rats create burrows to travel from their nest to a food source and to escape predators. Rat burrows usually contain a main entrance and 1 or 2 exit holes away from the main entrance.

We installed a number Ready-to-Use rodent bait stations near each of the burrows. After that, we then installed several snap traps that are inside temper-proof, child resistant boxes near the burrows. We also filled in a few of the burrows that were no longer in use by the rats. Lastly, we scheduled several follow-up visits to monitor the rat infestation, apply any additional treatments, and replenish the bait stations as needed.

This homeowner in Princeton Junction, NJ had suspected that she had squirrels in her attic, so she called Little Rascals to come out and inspect. When we arrived and inspected the roof, we found a chewed-out area by the soffit as well as squirrel hair stuck in it. If that wasn't enough, when we inspected the attic, we actually found the squirrel running around!

Since the chewed-out area was how the squirrel got in, we temporarily closed off the area with hardware cloth, installed a one-way device directly over the access point, and set up several baited devices nearby. The one-way allows the squirrel to safely leave the attic but prevents it from getting back in.

A short while later, we safely retrieved the squirrel! We then relocated it to a new, humane environment, disinfected the attic, and sealed up the soffit area with sturdy metal flashing. 

This homeowner in Princeton Junction, NJ, wanted his crawl space encapsulated, so he called Cowleys and we were sent out to perform the job.

Once we entered the crawl space we removed all the contaminated insulation and debris, leveled the ground for proper draining, and installed a drainage matting. This material is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over the sump pump. Once we finished, we installed a vapor barrier which is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. It cannot tear and is extremely durable. The vapor barrier is also treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold and is installed over the foundation walls and floor to create a continuous air and moisture barrier.

Next, we installed SilverGlo™, which is a waterproof foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity, to the walls of the crawl space. Lastly, we installed a Sani-Dry Sedona commercial-grade dehumidifier to control the humidity levels. The Sedona directs the extracted water pulled out of the air directly into the sump pump. Now the homeowner has a transformed crawl space that is clean and dry and can be utilized for additional storage space. 

Recently, we received a frantic call from a new customer in Princeton Junction, NJ. As her children were playing in the yard, they unknowingly disturbed a hornets nest and were stung several times. Fortunately, none of they were allergic or had to be hospitalized. As we arrived and inspected the area were the children were playing, we found a large bald-faced hornets nest in a bush in the backyard. 

Bald-faced hornets are aggressive stinging insects that can actually sense vibrations in the air when something or someone comes within close proximity to their nest. What's worse is that bald-faced hornets have smooth stingers, which means they sting over and over again. Using our extendable pole, we injected a knockdown aerosol application into the opening of the nest. After several moments, we then treated the nest with a knockdown liquid application. Both of these products will rapidly exterminate the bald-faced hornets. Once they were eliminated, we removed the nest and properly disposed of it.
