This homeowner in Westfield, Ma called us out because he could keep his home comfortable in the winter. The temperature would always change and his furnace would be on all of the time. During the inspection of the home, we found that he had an interior wall exposed to an attic space. This wall was letting heat escape in the attic by conducting right through the Sheetrock. To stop this, we started to insulate the wall with our silverglo foam EPS board. By putting this insulation board on the wall, it will stop the heat from conduction through the Sheetrock. Since the heat is now not escaping, this area of the home will be much more comfortable and the furnace will not have to run nearly as much!

This homeowner in Westfield, MA called us out to their home for a quote on upgrading their attic insulation. When we got to their home, in the attic we noticed very old, nasty fiberglass and blown-in insulation. We also noticed something more concerning, mold! Mold can be very harmful, especially to younger/older people, and pets! 

To begin, we prepped the home and protect the homeowners belongings. Next, we remove all of that old, nasty fiberglass and blown-in insulation, bag it up and properly dispose of it. Now we can treat that mold! We use our MoldX2 Cleaner to kill any and all mold spores. This can be sprayed directly on effected materials, or fogged to get into all nooks and crannies. Next, we use our Mold-X2 Botanical to remove the mold stains off of effected areas. Now, we air seal any top plates with foam. Finally, we can blow in our TruSoft Cellulose insulation which fills all gaps and odd shaped voids! The last thing we do, is install an insulated scuttle cover! FlexiSpan® crack repair is actually a three-part process that begins with the application of a flexible sealant along the full length of the crack. Next, a strip of flexible and porous foam is installed over the crack.

Finally, an impermeable membrane is adhered to the wall on both sides of the foam strip. This fail-safe treatment allows any future seepage of water through the crack to move invisibly down the wall and into the basement’s perimeter drainage system.

The old thinking in crawl space construction was to vent the crawl space and create the thermal boundary (insulation layer) at the crawl space ceiling. It doesn’t work. Insulation is pulled by gravity away from the sub floor you’re supposed to be insulating. The same cold air under the insulation flows into the space on top of it - rendering the insulation useless. As the insulation gets heavier with moisture content, it falls away from the sub floor even more and can even fall to the floor. Fiberglass batt insulation has paper facing and organic material in the resin used to set the fibers into a batt - both are mold food. Results - mold, smelly insulation that is not providing any insulation value and has sagged or even fallen.
