This homeowner in Westfield, MA called us hoping that she would be able to get some help with her insulation. When we came out to the home, we noted that her basement did not have an insulated exterior door. Steps from the basement to the outdoors are convenient, but the (metal) hatch doors that cover them are completely uninsulated and leak lots of air. Cold winter air gets sucked into the home continually in winter. In summer, warm humid air enters the basement and causes condensation on cool floor, wall and duct surfaces. Results - Cold basement, cold floors on first floor, drafts, higher heating fuel costs, condensation in summer, higher electric costs for A/C.
We had the perfect solution for this customer. In this solution, proper framing is installed and a new insulated exterior door with weather stripping and locking knob is installed. Now “inside” the house is inside the door, and “outside” is outside the door, so it doesn’t matter that the hatch door is uninsulated and leaks air. Result - warmer basement and floors over the basement, drier basement in summer, lower fuel and electric costs, less drafts, house easier to heat, more security.
This homeowner in Shelburne Falls, MA called us when she realized that half of her home was uninsulated. She was hoping to get a whole-home energy evaluation as well as get the home insulated. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived, we noted that there were several issues with the home - including the fact that her crawlspace was not encapsulated.
We began with insulating the crawl space's walls using SilverGlo™ foam insulation board. SilverGlo™ foam has graphite infused into the foam to increase the R-value by 24% over standard foam. We then laid out a dimpled plastic drainage mat across the floor, and installed TerraBlock™ floor insulation over it. On top of all of that, the CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner was installed permanently across it. The crawlspace is now clean and insulated -- protecting this customer's home from the temperature fluctuations, humidity, and pests outside!
This home owner in Southampton, MA called us out because of his basement. The problem was that he had so much humidity that his store bought dehumidifier could not keep up. To remedy this issue we proposed to insulate his walls and spray his rim joist. The first step in doing this is to put out our 4x8 panels of our foamax poly-iso board. While doing this it is imperative to make sure we seal in between ever piece so no convective air can travel through the cracks. This treatment will help stop the humidity from wicking through the concrete. To finish this job off, we sprayed the rim joist with our 2-part closed cell spray foam. By spraying the rim joist, we will stop cold air and humidity from entering this basement and causing the bad smelling odors. Now that this project is complete, this home owner will not have to deal with the unpleasant smells in his basement any more!
This sealing and insulating priority are more important in the attic than anywhere else in the house. The SuperAttic system from Dr. Energy Saver overcomes the limitations of other attic energy upgrades, offering superior energy performance throughout the year as well as a neater, cleaner appearance and more usable attic space.
This homeowner in Southampton, MA called us due to very cold floors she had every winter. Our Home Comfort Specialist came out to her home, and she noticed that this homeowner's fiberglass insulation was falling off of the subfloor, rendering it useless.
We were able to help this homeowner. We removed the moldy fiberglass insulation. Then, we insulated the rim joist of the home. After that, we insulated along the bottom of the floor joist with SilverGlo™ foam insulation board. This means the homeowner will have warmer floors, lower energy bills, and more comfortable rooms!
