Amber purchased a home in Friendship, MD, and shortly after the purchase called Complete Home Solutions to have them conduct a Home Energy Audit on the home. During this audit, our Home Comfort Specialist examines several different areas and systems around the home to determine ways to make the home more comfortable and efficient. Following the audit, our specialist pointed out 2 items the homeowner could take to improve comfort and efficiency, the aging heat pump, and the condition of the home's attic insulation. After replacing the HVAC system with a new Amana system, the attention turned to the attic of the home.
On the day of the On the day our crew began work on the attic they began by pulling back the existing insulation to ensure the area was properly air sealed. Air sealing ensures that there are no seams or cracks around top plates, recessed lights, or outlets that could allow conditioned air to rise and escape from the living area of your home. The next step was building an attic hatch damn at the entrance to the attic. This process allows our crew to blow insulation as close to your attic hatch as possible while also making the entryway clean if you have to get into your attic. The final step is to add a new blanket of Cellulose insulation to the attic to ensure 16 inches of insulation all the way around the attic.
Amber has noticed immediate improvements in the comfort of her home and is looking forward to many more efficient years ahead in her home! If you are interested in scheduling a Home Energy Audit, give us a call today at 1-866-632-5870
Carrie bought her home last fall and called Complete Home Solutions to determine the cause of the cold floors throughout the first level over the winter. upon arrival, our Home Comfort Specialist conducted a full inspection of the home to determine any areas of concern that could be resulting in uncomfortable temperatures. Following the inspection, the Specialist determined that the main source of any uncomfortable temperatures were coming from a crawl space that was in bad shape. The recommendation made was to fully encapsulate the crawl space to create an area isolated from the earth and outside elements. On the day of the encapsulation, our Home Comfort Technicians began by removing the old vapor barrier and insulation from the crawl space., this provided an empty area to begin the transformation. They then installed our Clean space vapor barrier which when bolted to the walls of the crawl space creates a seal that prevents any moisture or pest from entering the crawl from below. Following the installation of the vapor barrier, our Technicians used a 2 part closed cell spray foam to insulate and seal the walls. This process restricts any air from coming through the vents or cinder blocks in the crawl. The final step of this encapsulation is to install a dehumidifier that regulates the humidity to a consistent 50-55%.
Following the work, Carrie could not be happier with the look or performance of her new crawl space and has all ready noticed a difference in the temperature of her home.

After moving into her Tracys Landing, MD home last year, Carrie had a Home Energy Audit conducted by Complete Home Solutions to determine how energy efficient the house was. Following the Audit, our Home Comfort Specialist found several areas of the home that could be enhanced to improve on home efficiency and home comfort. Carrie followed all of the recommendations and began to chip away at each project. Our crew began by first fully encapsulating her crawl space. They then installed a new mini-split HVAC system, and the final improvement was to properly air seal and insulate the attic. As you can see above the attic had old fiberglass batt insulation that was well below current standards to keep the home properly insulated. To fix the comfort issues our crew began by pulling back the old insulation and air sealing any recessed light covers, top plates, and cracks in the drywall then blew in a fresh layer of cellulose insulation to give this home a proper 16 inches of insulation. By air sealing it prevents any conditioned air from escaping the living space of your home, and adding insulation creates a 16in barrier between the attic temperature and the rest of your home.
Carrie's home has now been properly insulated and sealed from top to bottom. These steps will help keep her home comfortable all year round, and also help her HVAC system run less, saving money on monthly utility bills.

This homeowner has a gorgeous home in Sunderland, Maryland. She's completely in love with it...except for when winter hits. The rooms get really cold and she is constantly turning up her thermostat, costing her a lot of money in utility bills. Fortunately, she found out about Complete Home Solutions and wanted us to come out before the weather got too cold.
We came and performed a Home Energy Audit to find out how to help this homeowner. We found that most of her problems stemmed from her attic's poor insulation. To fix this, we first constructed an insulation dam around the attic access hatch so that we could uniformly apply additional insulation. We then were able to install 8" of loose fill cellulose insulation, bringing the attic's insulation levels to R-49, which is the industry standard for our climate zone. Thanks to these upgrades, the homeowner can rest assured that she will stay nice and warm this coming winter!
