Before & After Photos

Part of this Herndon VA attic project included spray foam insulating the HVAC ducts running through the space.  Attic temperatures can fluctuate heavily depending on the season.  In the hotter months of the year, cold air trying to be delivered through HVAC ducts can be impacted by the hot temperatures in the attic.  In the colder months of the year, hot air can have the same effect from a cold attic.  This can all cause the HVAC system in a home to run more often than it should and raise energy costs.  Insulating these ducts with spray foam protects the air inside and reduces the amount of time the HVAC system has to run.  

These before and after photos are measuring the R-value of the insulation in the attic of this Garrisonville, VA home. 

R-value measures how well building insulation can prevent the flow of heat into and out of the home. Higher R-value means greater insulation performance, and thus more savings on your next heating and cooling bill. 

In the before photo you can see how low the R-value was. Comfenergy installed TruSoft Cellulose insulation in this attic to an R-value of 60! Now this house is more energy efficient and costs less to own. 

Attics can be 20 degrees in winter and 130 degrees in summer! 

Your vented attic is the worst possible place to locate ducts. Attics are the extreme opposite temperature of the air your ducts are trying to move to your rooms. Ductwork also has lots of gaps and holes that can leak into the attic. The air you paid to heat and cool and want to go to your rooms leaks out of the ducts into the attic, lost forever, or is exposed to major opposing temperature differences in the attic.

Duct encapsulation and sealing gaps and joints in the ductwork can prevent air loss and help your system run more efficiently. It keeps your ductwork at a steady temperature, meaning the air moving through the ducts isn't affected and will change the preferred temperature of your home more quickly. 

Homeowners in Stafford, VA had old, contaminated insulation in their attic that was ineffective. Over time, insulation can wear down. Old age, harsh weather conditions, and critters can degrade the material, rendering it pretty much useless.

The Comfenergy crew air sealed the attic and then installed fresh new cellulose insulation. Now it takes less energy to heat and cool this home, leading to lower utility bills and even temperatures throughout the house. 

This customer in Reston called about rodents in their attic and some issues with uneven temperatures throughout their home. Carl Depner went out to do an inspection and identified several potential services to help with the situation. A removal of all old fiberglass insulation was done along with removing any existing rodents and or waste. The floor of the attic was air sealed to help keep conditioned air inside the living space of the home, MoldX fogging spray was done to help reduce the possibility of mold in the future and the entire attic was covered in TruSoft Cellulose insulation. This will all help to better control the temperature inside of the home and reduce the possibility of rodents returning to the attic.
