Edward called Home Environment Solutions about his townhouse in McMurray being uncomfortable in the upstairs. Russ arrived at his home for a free energy audit and found old, loose insulation and an uninsulated scuttle cover that lets air escape from the home.

The HES team arrived removed and disposed of all the old insulation. They also air sealed and insulated scuttle cover, upgraded ceiling over shower area all with SilverGlo foam boards and Zypfoam expandable foam. Insulated attic with Trusoft Cellulose.

Roger from Allison Park Pa called Home Environment Solutions saying that he thinks he has mold in his attic. he also said he feels the upstairs of his home is never comfortable. It is always warm in the summer and cold in the winter.  We sent one of our experts out to take a look at the growth and to perform a free home energy audit.  Russ found microbial growth in the insulation. While performing the energy audit he found old batt insulation and numerous unsealed pipe runs and wire runs that allow air to escape.

Our mold team arrived, built a containment barrier to prevent contaminating the rest of the home . They removed all old insulation batts and discarded. Air Scubber in attic and used surface and substrate cleaner for removal of organic contamination where needed.

The insulation team air sealed and insulated the scuttle cover with SilverGlo, airsealed all penetrations interior and exterior with Zypfoam and applied Trusoft cellulose to the attic floor.

From went, damp, and musty to dry, clean and smelling like a new home.  Also, she now has a large useable storage area in her crawlspace.

Steven form Cranberry Township, PA saw the Gutter Shutter by Home Environment Solutions truck when he was at the Monroeville Mall. He called and explained that his gutters were clogged and pulling away from his home. The Gutter Shutter by Home Environment Solutions team showed up and removed Steven's old gutters including the metal screen inserts that failed to keep out the leaves and debris. The new Gutter Shutter system was installed with wide downspouts. Steven's home looks great and the new Gutter Shutter system is working perfectly.  

Brenda was dealing with several problems in her Cranberry Township home. Energy bills were high, rooms felt drafty, the upstairs was difficult to keep comfortable, and visible mold had developed in the attic.

While these may seem like separate issues, the attic can play a major role in all of them.

Our team approached the project with two goals: remediate the attic mold and improve the home's overall comfort and performance.

We first addressed the visible microbial growth with professional attic mold remediation. But simply treating the mold wasn't the end of the project. The attic also needed improvements to the air and thermal boundaries to help the home perform better throughout the year.

Our team completed comprehensive attic air sealing and addressed multiple areas where unwanted airflow could occur. This included sealing top plates, addressing chimney-related areas, and properly sealing and insulating the attic access.

This combination is important because insulation and air sealing perform different jobs. Insulation slows heat transfer, while air sealing helps stop conditioned air from escaping through hidden gaps and openings. When both are addressed as part of the same system, the home is better equipped to maintain consistent temperatures.

For Brenda, the finished project meant more than having the visible attic mold remediated. The attic was also improved to help reduce drafts, limit energy loss, and make the upstairs more comfortable throughout both hot summers and cold Pennsylvania winters.
