David from Fox chapel pa called Home Environment Solutions saying that every winter the upstairs of his home stays cold. David would like his home to be insulated better to save on energy costs and to be comfortable. We sent our expert Russell out to perform a free energy audit. Russ found a poorly insulated attic wit old loose insulation and a lot of wire and pipe runs unsealed.
We sent our insulation team out and they first removed and disposed of all the old insulation. Insulated the attic wall with Silverglo, insulated the skylights and air sealed, insulated and sealed the attic scuttle cover, sealed all pipe and wire runs with Zypfoam and used blow in cellulose on the attic floor.
Kelly called form Pittsburgh Pa saying that her upstairs seems to never be cool in the summer and never really warm in the winter. She wants to know what Home Environment Solutions can do to make her upstairs more comfortable year round. We set her an appointment for Russell to preform a free Home Energy Audit. When Russ arrived he found old batt insulation covered in rodent dropping, unsealed penetrations and scuttle cover.
We sent our insulation team and they prepared the attic for installation of fresh, clean insulation.

Maura reached out after noticing visible mold concerns and wanting to improve the overall air quality in her home. She was also concerned about maintaining proper humidity levels in the basement and ensuring her HVAC system wasn’t spreading contaminants.
When we evaluated the home, it was clear that the issue wasn’t just surface level. Mold and airborne contaminants can circulate through ductwork, affecting the air throughout the entire home.
Our team focused on cleaning and restoring the system from the inside out. We removed and treated microbial growth and addressed moisture-related conditions in the basement. With our partners over at Air Duct Maintenance, HVAC systems were cleaned and sanitized to NADCA standards. Microbial control and deodorizer were applied to the entire system, including coils and supply and returns.
By targeting both the contamination and the source of air movement, we helped stop the spread of airborne particles and improve overall indoor air quality. Now the home has cleaner air, a properly sanitized HVAC system, and better-controlled humidity -- creating a healthier living environment throughout.
Judy reached out because her home felt drafty and her energy bills were higher than they should be. Even without major temperature swings, the home just wasn’t holding comfort the way it should.
After evaluating the home, we found that air leakage in both the attic and lower areas of the home was allowing conditioned air to escape and outside air to enter.
Our team focused on tightening the entire system. In the attic, we sealed air leaks, sealed penetrations and top plates, installed insulation dams, and insulated the attic access to stop energy loss at the top of the home. We also addressed the lower part of the home by insulating and sealing rim joists, which are a common source of drafts and air leakage.
By improving both the attic and lower levels, we were able to control airflow throughout the entire home -- not just one area. Now the home feels less drafty, holds temperature more consistently, and operates much more efficiently.
Bill in Pittsburg, PA was having trouble with the gutters on his home. The screens he had on his gutters were not working. Water was overflowing and the gutters were still getting clogged. The Gutter Shutter by Home Environment Solutions Gutter Shutter team showed up and removed the old screens and installed new Gutter Guards on the home's existing gutter system. The new Gutter Guards are letting water drain correctly while keeping leaves and debris out.
